Critical Thinking in Massachusetts Schools
Brian Ashmankas of Examiner.com wrote an excellent article about how public education lacks critical thinking. Public schools often teach knowledge and not thinking skills. Ashmankas uses the analogy of teaching a person to fish rather than giving them fish. If you teach students to reason rather than teaching them answers society, individuals, and the world would be much richer. These statements are somewhat over simplified for example many people are able to be critical about set subjects, however, people do not apply that critical thinking across the board. None the less critical thinking should be taught and that is a step in the right direction. Every one should be calling for critical thinking to be taught in their state.

Critical thinking is needed globally?
Fund for thought is an United States of America non-profit organization focused on Critical, Skeptical, and logical thought. However; we are not the only organization focused on these efforts. The Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation reports today John Clements Consultanats, Inc. (JCCI) is working to get managers better skills for their roles by providing training in Cebu City, Phillippines. The Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology (CEDF-IT) recognizes these problems and has partnered with JCCI. In Conclusion Critical thinking is a vitial role in any society and should be praised and recognized.

Does the workforce want critical thinkers?
Yes, they do want critical thinkers and problem solvers in industry workforce. An article written in Reliable Plant magazine illustrates this point. The article titled Report finds new hires poorly prepared for workforce states industry wants more critical thinkers among other things. Applied skills, such as critical thinking and problem solving, enable new entrants to use the basic knowledge acquired in school to perform successfully in the workplace. Yet, more than 40 percent of employers indicating a “high need” for programs in critical thinking are not offering them.
The report The Ill-prepared US Workforce talks about a 91% high need for critical thinkers/problem solvers in industry. It is important for everyone in society to hone their critical thinking skills.

Where can I send my kids for critical thinking at summer camp?
Would it be great if there was a summer camp that teaches critical thinking? Today the Sacramento Bee has an article on Camp Quest. Camp quest is an Atheist oriented summer camp that teaches critical thinking at their camp activities. If you know of any other summer camps teaching critical thinking please shoot us an email.

Why let the students grade each others papers?
What is your initial reaction to letting other students grade each others papers? At first I was very hesitant when I read that in an article written by Robert Rose of the Huffington Post. His article titled Critical Thinking: Impossible in Schools explains how Jack Stafford has taught critical thinking in schools by building a safe enviroment and letting students grade each others papers. He also gives the basic elements of critical thinking: Clarity, Accuracy, Depth, Relevance and Fairness. This is a great article and everyone should read it. Teaching critical thinking in schools is a necessity.
